Safety Awareness Month Message:
September is recognized across the state of Georgia as Safety Awareness Month. During this time, we are conducting intruder, lockdown and other safety drills on our school campuses. In Decatur County Schools, we take this opportunity to educate and equip our students to respond quickly and safely to any and all emergency situations. Safety is and will always be our number one priority in Decatur County Schools.

Today we celebrate our tech hero who keeps our digital world running smoothly at Hutto Elementary—from troubleshooting glitches to building innovative solutions. Your expertise, dedication, and problem-solving skills make a huge difference every day.
Thank you for powering progress, protecting data, and enabling connections within our school community. Thank you Mr. Griffin for making technology work efficiently at Hutto Elementary School! We are proud to call you ours!

📚 3rd graders visited the Media Hub with Mrs. Palmer to explore animal adaptations with the book "What Do You Do With a Tail Like This?" After discussing how animals use their unique features to survive, students experienced two immersive VR videos—one about sharks and another featuring various animals and their adaptations.
Before returning to their classrooms, students completed a main idea and details graphic organizer using evidence from the book and videos. Then, back in class, they wrote paragraphs sharing what they learned from their exciting day of reading and exploration. A perfect blend of literacy, science, and technology! 🌟🦈🐊 #LearningAdventure #AnimalAdaptations #3rdGradeFun

We are proud to announce that Mrs. Samantha Palmer, Media Specialist at Hutto Elementary School, has been selected as one of this year’s Rising Star Educators. She will be formally recognized and honored at the upcoming GAETC Conference in November, where she will also be considered as a featured speaker. Her dedication and innovative approach serve as an inspiring example of how technology can transform education.
Mrs. Palmer shared, “I am truly honored to be nominated for this award, and being one of just four educators recognized across Georgia is incredible to me. Each week, I organize my time around ensuring students have the best possible learning experiences and that teachers feel supported and equipped. Being a media specialist allows me the unique opportunity to connect with all students and help them build a love for both reading and technology. My goal is for every student to have something meaningful and impactful to share with their parents at the end of the day. There’s nothing more rewarding than hearing a child excitedly share something special they experienced at school that day. What I enjoy most is combining literacy and technology, because when those two come together, amazing things can happen.”
Way to shine, Mrs. Palmer! Congratulations!
