🚗 New Hutto Elementary School Car Rider Drop-Off Update! 🚗
Parents of 3rd–5th Grade Students:
To help ensure a safe and efficient morning drop-off, please follow the UPDATED traffic pattern:
➡️ If you are coming from West Bainbridge,
Turn left at the traffic light by King's Corner onto Simms Street.
Then, turn right onto Progress Street and follow the curve of the road to the HES drop off point at the back of the school.
📍Please see the illustration for details.
🕖 Drop-off time: 7:00 AM – 7:45 AM
(After 7:45 AM students must be dropped off at the front entrance. Please note: any student arriving after 8:00 am must be signed in by a parent.)
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to keep all everyone safe!

The OPENGATE Security System is an advanced, walk-through weapons detection system designed to enhance school safety while maintaining a smooth flow of student entry. Unlike traditional metal detectors, OPENGATE uses advanced sensors to detect weapons and prohibited items without requiring students to stop, empty their pockets, or remove backpacks. This allows for efficient and non-intrusive screening, ideal for high-traffic areas such as school entrances.
Decatur County Schools has implemented OPENGATE to provide an added layer of protection for students and staff. The system is portable, quick to set up, and built to detect a wide range of threats while minimizing false alarms. With its modern design and cutting-edge technology, OPENGATE supports the district’s commitment to creating a safe and nurturing learning environment. We encourage all parents to emphasize to their children the importance of school safety and helping the Bearcat Family stay safe on every campus each day!
See how OPENGATE is making a difference in some of the largest school districts in the country, like Brevard County:

We’re excited to begin another great school year! Please review the Car Rider Procedures for 3rd–5th grade:
🚗 Morning Drop-Off (7:00–7:45 AM)
All car riders should be dropped off at the back of the school. Use the second entrance on Progress Street when coming from King’s Corner.
⏰ Late Arrivals (After 7:45 AM)
Students arriving after 7:45 AM should be dropped off at the front entrance of the school.
IMPORTANT: If a student arrives after 8:00 AM, a parent must come inside to sign them in.
🕔 Afternoon Pick-Up
3rd Grade: Pick up in the parking lot in front of the school, across from MLK Dr.
4th & 5th Grade: Use the same route as morning drop-off (back of the school via the second entrance on Progress Street).
📍Please refer to the illustration for traffic flow and exact locations.
Thank you for helping us keep arrival and dismissal safe and efficient!
