Students at Hutto Elementary embraced the joy of reading in unique and creative ways during Georgia Reads Day. To inspire a love for reading, the school organized a special bingo challenge where students were encouraged to read in different places and explore various reading styles.
Mrs. Lewis' class stood out as the first to complete the challenge, earning a delightful surprise. Morgan Hurlock, a talented graphic designer, shared an inspiring video with the class, explaining her career journey, the importance of reading, and how her favorite books helped her land her dream job designing socks. Each student in Mrs. Lewis’ class was thrilled to receive a pair of socks personally designed by Morgan.
Adding to the excitement, Mayor Reynolds visited Mrs. Rand’s class to read the book Hey, Georgia by Malcolm Mitchell. The students not only enjoyed this engaging story about Georgia but also had the opportunity to ask the Mayor questions. The visit was further energized by appearances from Bearcat football players and cheerleaders, who shared their own love of reading and school spirit.
To cap off the celebration, all classes were given access to a live link to watch Malcolm Mitchell himself read his book The Magician’s Hat followed by a magical show. This special event highlighted the joy and wonder that reading can bring.
Georgia Reads Day at Hutto Elementary was a tremendous success, fulfilling its goal to encourage children to read for pleasure and bringing the joy of reading to every student. The school community is proud to foster a lifelong love of books and learning in its students.
